This blog demonstrate step by step procedure of creating Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS) in Primavera Project Planner P6. The role and importance of OBS in P6 was discussed in the previous blog.
To setup OBS in P6, follow the following steps:
1. Open P6
2. In the main menu, go to Enterprise > OBS...
3. Click Add in the OBS dialogue box
4. In the General tab, insert OBS Name and Description.
5. Once, you have defined a new element in the OBS, it will be available to for assignment in the EPS nodes. For instance in this demo, we created a new OBS element and named it as Chief Engineer. Now, we can go to EPS ( refer to the previous blog for step by step demo of that EPS) and assign it to Highway Division by selecting Chief Engineer option from Responsible Manager drop-down menu
6. Once you assign a responsibility to an OBS element, it becomes available in the Responsibility tab in OBS Dialogue Box
7. Following above steps, organizational hierarchy of any organization can be conveniently defined and then assigned to relevant EPS nodes in P6
